SwiftMobile launched the first mobile application for a major medical conference at The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery’s (ASCRS) annual meeting at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center in Boston, Massachusetts.  The ASCRS 2010 mobile apps were created as customized versions of the BCEC application and incorporated venue and nearby maps created for the BCEC.  “Our strategy of partnering with large convention centers allows us to build in valuable local information attendees need to navigate the city and the venue,” said SwiftMobile CEO Kathleen Gilroy.  ”Once a venue has been added to our network, we can deploy a custom event app that includes maps of the venue and nearby businesses.”

These features proved very popular with the 2,000 doctors who downloaded the ASCRS 2010 mobile app this past weekend.  The app received over 85,000 page views.  The most popular features were the mobile agenda pages, followed by the venue and nearby maps.  ”Our analytics show that people were searching the venue maps to find locations within the building for their meetings,” said Gilroy.

The ASCRS was the first SwiftMobile mobile app with a paid sponsorship.  Bausch & Lomb’s mobile sponsorship included a spotlight on its booth on the trade show floor map, five banner ads that rotated through pages in the app, digital signage in the BCEC, walk-in slides promoting the app, and sponsorship of printed materials that were dropped in attendee rooms and handed out at the point of registration.

The five banner ads for Bausch & Lomb were seen over 10,000 times by users.

“Right now, mobile advertising and sponsorships are huge. We’ve built our apps to make it easy for event producers like ASCRS to approach sponsors with this opportunity,” said Gilroy. “And we know that people are enjoying the benefits of a mobile concierge — today we got ‘props’ from a user who tweeted “Kudos to Swift for creating the #ASCRS2010 mobile app — it definitely saved me some time today :) .”
